For starters, Richard and Maya got married in the old church in San Nicolas two years ago. The whole family, including Rafi and Charlie, Lolo and Lola, Manang Fe, Sabel, Doris, Joma, even Liza, Ryan and Eman flew to San Nicolas for the special occasion. kittel It was a simple but beautiful wedding. The bride and groom said their vows with so much love and sincerity that there was not a dry eye among the guests.
They had the reception in the most romantic place in San Nicolas, by the river. The tables and chairs were elegantly setup. They hired a string quartet to provide the music. Scented candles were all over the place, giving the area a romantic glow.
Nikki watched her Dad with tears in her eyes. He was dancing with Maya, their first dance as husband and wife. He had his arms around her as she leaned her head on his chest. Nikki looked at his face and saw how happy he was, how contented. He was literally glowing with love. Sigh, they’re so lucky to have each other , she thought. The sadness in her heart was not because Maya is now her new mom. She had accepted that wholeheartedly by now. She was lonely because she and Nicolo missed the chance to be here together. He couldn’t make it to the wedding because of some family matter.
It’s been a year since he confessed how he felt about her. They’ve kittel gotten closer since then. He would often spend the afternoons in their house, studying with Luke. Nikki would bake cookies for them and he would happily bring some home with him. Sometimes they ended up talking on the phone until late at night. kittel They talked about their families, themselves, even their dreams. He always ended their conversations with “goodnight, beautiful”. She sighed again, wishing he was here beside her now, to share this romantic place with, to sit beside him, to dance with him… Sigh. Nikki looked at Luke and Abby who were both happily watching their Dad and Maya.
As for Luke, he apparently knew what was going on between Nikki and Nicolo from the beginning. When Nicolo took Nikki’s hand in the car, he was the one who saw it. He didn’t mention it to anyone, kittel waiting for either Nicolo or Nikki to tell him, but neither of them opened up so he kept his mouth shut. For more than a year, he had been watching them with interest. The truth is, he’s happy that the two of them seemed to be falling for each other. At least he was sure that he could trust Nicolo, and he knew that he will take care of his sister.
Over the next two years, things have been pretty much the same until seven months ago, when Richard kittel announced to the family that they were expecting a baby. This brought excitement kittel to the whole household. Abby especially, was excited to become an ‘Ate’.
Last night, there was bedlam in the house when Maya started feeling labor pains. Everyone was frantic, trying to help get them ready to go. Joma drove Richard and Maya to the hospital, while the kids were made to stay at home, despite their protests.
“Kids, you can come over to see your brother now,” Richard told them over the speakerphone. There was a collective shout of “yehey! woohoo! kittel congrats!” coming from everyone as the kids scrambled to get dressed.
It was Nicolo. He had been in Singapore with his mom for most of the summer break. Nikki eyes widened happily upon seeing him. This didn’t escape Maya, who watched them with a smile in her heart.
“Hi Tito, Tita! Congratulations po! Nagpunta po ako sa inyo kanina at sabi ni Manang kittel Fe na nanganak na daw po kayo kaya dumerecho na ako dito. Eto po pala, may dala akong mga pasalubong para sa inyong lahat.”
Nicolo stood beside Nikki, smiling and cooing kittel at the baby in her arms. Maya couldn’t help but feel like it was a snapshot of the future. Nikki and Nicolo, and a baby of their own. Maya smiled wistfully at them. Luke looked at them too and felt the same way. Maya saw Luke smiling at them and elbowed him quietly. He looked at Maya who gave him a conspiratory smile. He realized that Maya knew what was going on too and probably approved. kittel After all, Nikki was already seventeen and was about to enter college at PUS this June.
“Yehey! Can we have ice cream Kuya?” Abby asked him.
“Parang ikaw lang Niknik,” Nicolo smiled at her as he put it on her wrist.
“Nikki,” he interrupted, taking her hand into his, “ako na ang bahala dun. Actually, magpapaalam na sana ako sa kuya mo then sa dad mo today kaya ako pumunta sa bahay nyo, pero nasa ospital na pala kayong lahat.”
Abby looked at them with wide eyes and an open mouth (ala Maya).
“Abby, ah.. Luke… ah… ano, um…” he stammered trying to find the right words. He was planning to tell Luke when the two of them were alone. But saying it in front of Nikki and Abby was not part of the plan.
