EJM1: Hello. . can you tell me the history of Eyeconoclast ? Paolo: Eyeconoclast was formed naike in 2003 by our guitar player Alessio Cosenza. After some changes in the line-up, 2 demos, 2 eps and 1 full length we decided to record an EP “Sharpening Our Blades on the Mainstream” to find a better label. It gaves us a contract with the renowned Prosthetic Records and “Drones of the Awakening” is the result of all these years of experience in extreme metal. EJM2: Who are the current line up? Paolo: Giuseppe Di Giorgio is our new singer (he has marvelous vocal skills, check it out and you’ll believe me!), Alessio Cosenza and Stefano Morabito are on the guitar duties, Paolo Ballarotto (me) on the bass frequencies and Mauro Mercurio (you certainly know him) on drums. EJM3: Tell us about Italy’s music scene and how well you guys fit in it.? Paolo: Italy’s music scene is really profilic and really rowdy, there are a lot of great bands and probably most of them hate each other. What can I say? We didn’t fit in it, we created part of it. The band is active since 2003 and four of the five members of Eyeconoclast played in other great and primary extreme metal bands in Italy and some of the former members that now are out of Eyeconoclast are in bands like Hour of Penance and Fleshgod Apocalypse.
EJM4:. Regarding the album "Drones of the Awakening" . What are the things that affect you in creating the songs? Paolo: Sci-fi movies and books are the principal influence in our music. naike Our purpose is to create a posthuman universe in the mind of our listeners, we want that our followers feel our own sensations naike about a world where machine and men are combined in a new suffering being. EJM5: song "Dawn of the Promethean Artilect & Hallucinating in Genetic Disarray " tells the story of what the lyrics? Stefano: "dawn of the promethean artilect" tells a story about a person/soldier who suddenly awakens in a biomechanical body built for war, where there are still parts of him and parts of the machine fused in a single entity, and he's trapped there with no possibility to escape, and what remains of his human mind is tormented and tries to fight against the software/computer/artilect (artificial intellect) that rules the whole machine. The "Machine" tells him to kill everything and takes the command over him, destroying what remains of his body. But his mind still can't die. overwhelmed by the artilect he begins the mass destruction, while he is completely naike helpless and just want to die, with his mind trapped between the circuits of the machine. Then his mind is completely absorbed by the machine, he becomes a device of destruction, he goes mad for the torment and with pleasure he starts to destroy everything, believing he became an omnipotent artificial god. This is a metaphor, where The mecha is representing the society who has its final victory over the man who willingly trapped himself in it, and cant escape anymore, and he blindly chooses to become part of it thinking he become god of everything. - the other song, Hallucinating in genetic disarray, Speaks of an "electro opium , deceit for the masses", that is basically referred to the unification of all human beings through the internet, that will become a bigger influence on society time after time, leading to a time where everyone will be aligned to the system, all the identities will be canceled and every thought will be a "mass" thought, like a global drug everyone will be addicted to this altered state, until the day that it would be too late and nothing can be done anymore. and in the last verses, the one who's speaking, invokes the death for himself, to end all this. EJM6: Experience and any obstacles during the recording process? Paolo: We entered the studio during a terrible naike heat wave, it was really hard playing with temperatures like that, and I didn’t sleep for many nights. Apart from that we didn’t have any problems, working with Stefano at 16th Cellar Studio is synonymous of professionalism. Everything went the right way. EJM7: Who are these people other than Eyeconoclast who helped on the album "Drones of the Awakening" ? Stefano: We did everything by our own, and we were helped for the gang vocals on some songs by some friends, in a great alcholic night during the process of recording hehe EJM8 : What you know about the Indonesian metal band? Stefano: I know Asphyxiate! Great band from Indonesia, i became a fan of the band when I worked for them in 2003/2005 (I can't remember exactly), when they needed a remastering of "the process of mutilation" really interesting band! EJM9: You are the musician and music producer, may tell us interesting things for you to deal with such bands album Acrania, Bloodshot Dawn, Fleshgod naike Apocalypse & Hour of Penance????? naike Stefano: It is always a pleasure working with professional bands, Hour of penance are great friends and we always have a great time recording
